Hammurabi
Hammurabi was the king of Babylon when his father died when he was a young man. He transformed Babylon into a great, powerful state from a small city. His codes were all about crimes, farming, family, business activities, and marriages. They mainly covered every area of life. The connection between Hammurabi and the world today is that he made the first laws and that we still use some of his laws today.
Some of the laws Hammurabi made were very cruel and harsh. One of the laws were, ” If a “sister of a god” open a tavern or enters a tavern to drink, she would be burned to deah. Another law I found cruel was , ” If someone strikes a man of a higher rank, then he shall be whipped 60 times in public.  I think the first law was bad because if somebody wanted to do what they want, they should be able to do it without getting burned to death. On the second law, I don’t think it’s fair because what if somebody accidently srikes another man. It wouldn’t be fair to get whipped. Some of the laws that I think are good are, If anybody stole the minor son of another, he should be put to death. I think its a good law because I don’t think its fair to kidnap somebody’s son, so they should get a harsh punishment. Another one is, If he kill a man’s slave, he shall pay one-third of mina. I think its fair because someone shouldn’t be going around killing people. That’s my blog post about Hammurabi. Thank you for reading. (:
