My Poem (:

The day had finally come.
the day we got to play,
on the fresh dirt, chalked,
Softball diamond.

Crush, my team, is,
playing against the world
champions for this years
championship game.

Pitcher,Nancy, is
considered the best pitcher,
worldwide. I’ve played softball
all of my life. I’m
observant of other players
but lack assurance  that
I can hit the ball.

2 outs.
We are losing by 1.
Runner on second.
I have one last chance
at bat to win game .
Be considered champions.
Both runner and
batter need to score.

Home was winning,
but pitcher got tired
and gave up runs.
So, by the 7th inning
score was home: 7
and visitors: 8.

Pop-up and an
groundout cause 2
outs in bottom of 7th.
One more out,
Crush loses it all.
Can I do it?

Ball is let go
from pitcher’s hand.
First pitch, ball 1.
Second pitch,Umpire yells
STRRRRIIIIIKKKKEEEE 1,
next two pitches, balls
fifth pitch, Umpire shouts
SSSTTTRRRIIIKKKEEE 2.
Count is 3 balls, 2 strikes.
If next pitch is good,
I have to swing
Or we lose game.
I became very nervous.

A time out is taken,
I take a deep breath
tell myself I can do it
be confident,
The umpire yells: Play Ball!!!!
Ball leaves pitcher’s hand.
Whaccckkkk!!!!!!!
It’s going, it’s going,it’s GONE!!
A two run homerun!!!
Score is now
home: 9 & visitors: 8.
I just helped win the game,
because I had  fortitude
and faith in myself.
Played my heart out!
All it takes is
some reassuring words!

150 Word Story

Lilo’s easily startled, but huge. Stitch’s wants a new life. They unexpectedly meet, and change each other.

Stitch decided to leave home. He came upon a house which looked vacant. “This is a perfect place to settle,” he declared.

Lilo didn’t know Stitch was there. She stepped outside, saw him and screamed.

Lilo would look to see if Stitch was there. He was, so Lilo would hide. Stitch kept assuming he was the atrocious person, but he was the opposite.

Stitch was disappointed when Lilo hid, so he would  talk to her. “Please, come out.”

Lilo was lonely. She remembered her brother saying, “Don’t be afraid. Have self assurance to push through your fears!” This saying was thought over in her mind. Then, she went outside.

Stitch said, ”I’m Stitch.”

Lilo replied, “I’m Lilo.”

Lilo noticed he wasn’t scary, and they started talking. Lilo had the courage to face Stitch! (:

Volunteer Work

Filed under: Blog Challenge — Mikayla at 3:29 pm on Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Hi. Welcome to my blog. This week in the Edublogs Challenge 6 we have to write a blog post about work. If I could volunteer for any non-profit organization in the Monterey County, I would choose the Animal Friends Rescue Project or AFRP.  AFRP is an non-profit organization that is  dedicated to finding good permanent homes for abandoned, stray, and abused companion animals and ending the pet overpopulation crisis through focused spay/neuter programs.  This organization is really important because I believe helping stray or abused animals is really important. When ever I see a dog or a cat or any other animal running around with no owner it breaks my heart. I always feel sorry for them and want to help. If I received anything in return for volunteering, I wouldn’t want money. I would just want to know that the animals find a good home and have the right love and care that they deserve. People can help this organization adopting a dog or a cat. If you can’t adopt you can always donate money for supplies or other things to take care of the animals.

Here is a cat and dog you might be able to help :

Persian Warrior

Filed under: History — Mikayla at 5:11 pm on Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Hi. For this blog post I am going to pretend I am a Persian warrior in the battle of Thermopylae.

I am a great Persian Warrior. One of our, the Persians, most famous victories was the battle of Thermopylae. We defeated  We battled many Athenians and Spartans. First it was the Athenians, but they eventually got tired and switched with the Spartans. The way I was able to be in the great battle was the commander Xerxes I. Oh how he was an amazing leader.

The battle was very gruesome. The different sights, smells, screams. You could see soldiers falling on top of each other, dying,  blood pouring out from wounded warriors. I could also see the spears from oncoming Greeks. Their shields would glisten in the sun. Now the smell. Oh the smell. You could smell sweat from tired warriors, grass from the battle fields, and the fresh air from outside. You can hear shouts of warnings of oncoming Spartans, shouts of pain from the wounded, and words of encouragement from the opposite soldiers. I am an archer. The bow fits comfortably in my hand with an arrow on its strings. I have many arrows in a pouch, in order to reload. The taste of dust and dirt fills my mouth. But, I can taste something else. Something sweet. The taste of VICTORY.

I saw this shield coming at us during the battle.

Weekly Math Blog

Hi. This week was all about geometry and measurement. The first thing we learned about  was finding the perimeter. The perimeter of a polygon is the sum of the lengths of the sides. First you add all of the sides lengths. Say the sides are 3cm , 5cm , 5cm ,and 9 cm, the perimeter would be 22cm. The next thing was the circumference of a circle. A circle is the set of all points in a plane that are the same distance from a given point, called the center. The circumference is the distance around a circle. When finding the circumference you want to locate the diameter or the radius. Remember, 2 radii make 1 diameter. First you write the formula. This is an example: d= 8ft c=?. Next you would multiply your diameter by pi. The number for pi is 3.14. The find your answer. We also learned how to find the area of parallelograms, triangles, trapezoids, and circles.  Are is measured in square unit. First you use the formula A=b*h. Then you substitute b and h with your numbers. Then you multiply but make sure you put your measurement squared. When finding the area of triangle youe use the formula A=1/2b*h or A=b*h÷2. Then just solve it.  A trapezoid you use this formula, A=1/2h(b1 + b2). Then you solve. For finding the area of a circle, you use a completely different formula. The formula you use is A= πr². Then you solve it. One last thing we learned about was Finding the area of irregular and composite figures. A composite figure is made up of simple geometric shapes, such as triangle and rectangles. First you separate the figure into smaller, familiar figures. Next you find the ares of each shape and add it together. That is all we learned this week. Thanks for reading. Bye!!!

Spartan Letter.

Hi. For this blog post we have to pretend we live in Sparta and write a letter to our parents.

Dear Mom and Dad,

I wanted to write you a letter to tell you how proud I am to be Spartan. I love how our government is an oligarchy. They were so smart to do that instead of a democracy. I like how they chose 2 kings to head a council of elders, and that there was 28 members over the age of 60 that could present laws to an assembly. Even though it doesn’t affect my vote or opinion , I still like how there is a small amount pf leaders so it doesn’t get chaotic. My role in society is to be a healthy and fit mother so my children can be fit and healthy also.My life at home is all about training in sports. The sports I participate in are running, wrestling, and throwing the javelin. I like the fact that Spartan women were freer than any other Greek women. And how we also  could ow n property & go where we wanted.

Compared to Athens, Sparta is way better. Sparta had a better government. We could always defend ourselves and be great in sports. We could also own land and go where we wanted making us freer than any other Greece women. Athenians spend to much time on reading, writing, and all of the other learning stuff. Sparta just focuses on military and getting our warrior tough. That is an excellent thing. Weel I will see you soon. Bye! THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!!!!!

Love,

Aikaterine ( Mikayla)
